DAY OF ACTION FOR STATEWIDE SOURCE OF INCOME PROTECTIONS
JOIN FHJC AND COALITION IN ALBANY FOR LOBBYING EFFORT FEB 11TH
Next Tuesday, February 11th, the Fair Housing Justice Center (FHJC) will take part in a Day of Action in Albany, advocating for education and enforcement resources for New York’s new statewide law banning housing discrimination based on legal source of income. The Day of Action is sponsored by the Statewide Source of Income Coalition.
Thanks to a new law passed in 2019 in New York State, it is illegal to discriminate against people using non-wage income to pay for housing, such as veterans’ or disability benefits, Section 8 vouchers, or child support.
The Statewide Source of Income Coalition, originally organized in 2015 by ERASE Racism, is a vast network of over 100 organizations that support the enforcement of the recent change in the law. Currently led by Enterprise Community Partners, the Coalition continues to ensure the housing choice of all New Yorkers. Click HERE to visit their website.
The Coalition is offering travel reimbursement for mileage, tolls, and parking for groups bringing 5 or more people coming from outside of Albany County. Click HERE for more information on reimbursement and to RSVP.
The mission of the FHJC, a nonprofit civil rights organization, is to eliminate housing discrimination; promote policies and programs that foster open, accessible, and inclusive communities; and strengthen enforcement of fair housing laws in the New York City region.
